The nutritional demands of the endurance athlete are much different than those of the traditional 'team' sport athlete. Your training routines are often longer than 2 hours, with races, depending on length, lasting much longer than that.

The successful multi-sport endurance athletes can be considered to be some of the best physically prepared athletes on the planet - harmonizing body and mind, to 'endure' the duration of the physical and psychological challenges infront of them.

When it comes to endurance sport, there are several factors that act as equalizers, such as equipment and course design, however it is the variable factors such as physical and psychological preparation that separates the successful from the frustrated.

Nutrition is one of these factors. A properly formulated 'fueling' strategy, when all else is equal, can be the different between a PB and a DNF. We will refer to 'fueling' throughout these pages as we believe it applies to Endurance Nutrition since when you are training and competing, you are 'fueling' your body and mind. Like gas is the fuel for your car, food is the fuel for your body, it makes you go!
Like every aspect of success in endurance sport, proper nutrition requires planning, practice, and training to reap the benefits on race day. The information on this page will give you the background information you need about fueling, and includes some recommendations about what to use, when, and how much. Enjoy!
